Going all in at Patriot Half
Even though it was technically a B-race for me this year, I wanted to win more than I can describe. I had been 2nd overall two years in a row and was ready to go deeper than I ever have to finally break the tape.

Getting after it at Patriot Half
Patriot was my first half in 2017 and I've raced it or relayed every year since. It fell on my birthday that year like it did this year too, so this one was extra special.

Shaking off the rust at Morro Bay
This race was really fun overall. The course was great and the weather mostly cooperated. I didn't really have a specific performance goal going into the race.

Everything that I've done for the last year has been driving toward this day. I had planned and replanned every aspect that I could and had the race plan committed to memory.

Tuning up at Timberman
I planned Timberman into the season a little later than the other races. I thought it would be a good tuneup for Kona right before heading to the island.

Test run at Sea 2 Summit
This was a crazy race. I knew I was going to go fast but I was on the fence whether to race it high IM pace or just go as hard as possible. My legs chose the latter.

Feeling strong at Musselman
I really like a self-seeded swim start. I pushed up to the sub-27 group and wound up as one of the first in the water. There was a decently steady wind toward shore which made for some light chop, but I knew I could handle it.
